Reborn: Back to the 1980s Chapter 50 Part 2

Hearing this, Guan Yuan sneered inwardly. Although Third Grandma had helped them when they were suffering, ever since he had come back after being reborn, he and Zhao Shenggu had never treated Third Grandma badly. Before that incident happened, no matter what they got, he and Zhao Shenggu would always think of leaving a portion for Third Grandma.

Besides that, Guan Yuan had also saved Third Grandma's life. No matter how great the debt of gratitude was, it had already been repaid.

And when Third Grandma suffered grievances from Guan Mandi and Zhao Juan, in the past, as long as Third Grandma spoke up, he and Zhao Shenggu would always go and intervene, and then Guan Mandi and Zhao Juan would behave themselves for a while.

Maybe that was exactly what Third Grandma was thinking. When her life became unbearable, she hoped Guan Yuan and Zhao Shenggu would restrain Guan Mandi and Zhao Juan a little. But at the same time, she did not want anything to really happen to Guan Mandi.

It had to be said that Third Grandma truly had the heart of a loving mother. But why should he and Zhao Shenggu play the villains? The most important thing for a person is to save themselves. Since Third Grandma felt that her son was above all else, she shouldn't look for others to be the scapegoat.

What Guan Yuan could figure out, Zhao Shenggu naturally could as well. Third Grandma had always been a caring elder in his heart, and now that the bloody truth had been laid bare, his mood naturally would not be good.

Guan Yuan pressed his hand against his own face. "Brother, how others are has nothing to do with us."

Zhao Shenggu gave a sound of agreement and held Guan Yuan tightly in his arms.

Now that they were on holiday, there was naturally no need to get up so early. Guan Yuan pulled Zhao Shenggu, who wanted to get up. "Brother, sleep a little longer with me." Maybe it was because children needed more sleep. When Guan Yuan got up early, he would feel he had not slept enough. Now that he had the chance to sleep in, he naturally would not let it go.

Zhao Shenggu smiled dotingly, took off the clothes he had put on, held Guan Yuan in his arms, and went back to sleep. By the time the two got up again, it was already nine o'clock.

Guan Yuan looked at Guanjia Village covered in heavy snow and took a deep breath. Home was still the best!

"Xiao Yuan, don't stand outside for too long."

"I know."

Just as Guan Yuan was about to go inside, the door was knocked with loud bangs. He wondered why so many people were coming to find them as soon as they got home. After opening the door, he found it was Guan Guo.

Guan Guo stood outside anxiously. "Xiao Yuan, where's Shenggu?"

"My brother is cooking. What's the matter?"

"Third Aunt wants to drink pesticide. A lot of people are trying to talk her out of it right now!" Guan Guo said anxiously.

Hearing that Third Grandma actually wanted to drink pesticide, Guan Yuan's heart also skipped a beat. But after hearing that many people were trying to persuade her, Guan Yuan understood. Would someone who truly wanted to die make such a scene so everyone knew?

"Then why are you looking for us? It's no use even if we go!" Guan Yuan said to Guan Guo.

Guan Guo gave a sound of surprise and scratched his head. "I just thought you two are close to Third Aunt, so maybe she'd listen if you tried to persuade her!"

Guan Yuan asked Guan Guo without showing any emotion, "Who told you to come get us?"

"Ah, it's just that Third Grandma kept crying and saying she had let you down, so everyone thought of asking you to go persuade her." Guan Guo saw Guan Yuan's gloomy expression and also sensed something was off. "What's wrong? Is something the matter?"

Guan Yuan laughed. "Nothing, Uncle Guan. You should go back first. There are so many people at Third Grandma's place. It won't help even if my brother and I go."

"Oh, then I'll go first." Guan Guo was straightforward. If this had been Li Ying here instead, she probably would have already figured out all the twists and turns.

Guan Yuan sneered inwardly. Third Grandma was really something. Seeing that there was no hope with them, she immediately used this trick. It would not only make her life easier in the future, but also would not have any real impact on Guan Mandi. Moreover, she wanted to use his and Zhao Shenggu's sympathy to drag them in too. He had said it before: how could a woman who raised a child alone be a simple character?

Zhao Shenggu had already been leaning by the door when Guan Guo was speaking, and he naturally understood this whole affair as well. Seeing Guan Yuan enter the house, he smiled and waved to him. "Let's eat."

Guan Yuan smiled, showing two tiger teeth. "Yeah."

After this incident with Third Grandma, many people in the village were dissatisfied with Guan Mandi and Zhao Juan. The village chief also lost his temper at Zhao Juan and Guan Mandi, saying that if they kept this up, the village would send them to the police station together.

After this fuss, Zhao Juan indeed settled down. At least on the surface, she was very filial to Third Grandma.

But lately Guan Yuan had been very unhappy. This year Zhao Shenggu would turn sixteen, and in the village there were plenty of young men that age getting married.

Zhao Shenggu was handsome and also so wealthy. Who in the nearby villages with a daughter would not want to latch onto such a son-in-law? So after Guan Yuan and Zhao Shenggu returned home, matchmakers came to their door one after another.

That day, Guan Yuan and Zhao Shenggu made a round through several workshops. Not long after they returned, a matchmaker from a neighboring village showed up at their door.

She first praised Guan Yuan and Zhao Shenggu lavishly, then said to Zhao Shenggu in an exaggerated tone, "Shenggu, you're so lucky! A beauty like a fairy has taken a fancy to you!" She then looked at Zhao Shenggu smugly.

Guan Yuan's eyes turned cold. These people were like flies that just wouldn't go away.

"You can leave. I'm not thinking about getting married yet!" Before Guan Yuan could lose his temper, Zhao Shenggu had already refused.

"What..." The smile on the matchmaker's face froze. "You haven't even heard who it is yet. Let me tell you, this girl is the prettiest in ten miles and eight villages. So many people have come to propose that they've worn out her doorstep. Her family is well-off too — her brother serves in the army, and her father is the village chief. If you ask me, you two are a match made in heaven..."

"If so many people are proposing, then just find a good one and marry her off. I really don't want to get married right now. Please go back, auntie." Zhao Shenggu even put away the teapot — that was his way of telling her to leave.

The matchmaker couldn't even keep up her frozen smile anymore. But she still had relatives working at "Yuangu" Garment, so she didn't dare offend Zhao Shenggu. She could only force a smile and say, "Well, if you're not willing, then forget it. A marriage needs both sides to be willing, after all." After speaking, she glanced at the fruit plate on the kang — filled with fruits arranged according to Guan Yuan's preferences, red and yellow, a delightful sight to behold.

Zhao Shenggu pretended not to notice the matchmaker's gaze and walked her straight out the front door.

Guan Yuan sat by the floor stove in a daze. In his previous life, because they were still living with the Guan family, Zhao Shenggu had worked day and night to support his schooling. For someone like Zhao Shenggu — with no property, no money, and still having to put a student through school — no one came to propose marriage.

Maybe it was only later that Zhao Shenggu fell in love with him. If their lives had been easier in the previous life, Zhao Shenggu would have already married, wouldn't he? At this thought, Guan Yuan's heart panicked. No, he absolutely could not let that happen.

When Zhao Shenggu came in and saw Guan Yuan sitting there dazed, he reached out and pulled him into his arms. "What are you thinking about again?"

Guan Yuan grabbed Zhao Shenggu's arm and stared at him steadily, saying word by word, "Brother, can you never get married for your whole life?" He knew he was being too impatient, but he couldn't help it.

Zhao Shenggu was stunned by the question. He and Guan Yuan had grown up depending on each other, and he always put Guan Yuan first in everything. Originally, he had thought that when he found a wife in the future, she absolutely had to be someone good to Guan Yuan, someone Guan Yuan could accept.

But now he had no desire to get married at all. He didn't know why. Ever since that time in the kitchen when Guan Yuan pressed his face against his back and he felt something unusual, afterward, whenever Guan Yuan was close to him, he felt strange all over — yet he couldn't bear to give up that closeness.

He didn't know how to answer Guan Yuan's question. Never get married for a lifetime? Could they be together forever? If so, he wouldn't mind. But were his feelings for Xiao Yuan normal? Was there any brother who felt this way about his younger brother?

Looking into Guan Yuan's clear eyes, Zhao Shenggu panicked and looked away, pretending to be relaxed. "How can you go a whole lifetime without getting married..."

"What if I want you to never get married? Not ever!" Guan Yuan's voice suddenly sharpened. He couldn't hold back anymore. He didn't want to keep guessing.

Zhao Shenggu stared at Guan Yuan in shock, not understanding why he had such a big reaction. "But... but... everyone has to get married..."

"Others can, but you can't. You have to stay with me — your whole life, just the two of us, with no one else coming between us!" Guan Yuan knew his extreme side — shaped by a hundred years of drifting alone — was showing, but on this matter, he no longer wanted to hold back.

Zhao Shenggu finally realized something was off. "Xiao Yuan, you..." Before he could finish, Zhao Shenggu's eyes went wide and he couldn't even move, because Guan Yuan had kissed him.
