They had just moved into a new house, so of course they wanted to invite friends over to celebrate.
Lu Yang, Liu Sinian, Lao Ke, and Zhuzhu all came. They also invited Jiang Zhi and Yu Qingshi, but those two used filming as an excuse and didn't show up—Qi Cheng knew Jiang Zhi still needed time, so he didn't say anything.
This time, when Zhuzhu and Lao Ke arrived, the first thing they saw was the wooden sign hanging by the gate—Bai Family.
Their eyes went wide.
Wait—isn't this the Zhao residence they filmed at last time?
Once they stepped inside, the layout looked mostly the same, but every piece of furniture and decor had been completely changed—it was totally unexpected. Zhuzhu met Boss Orange's husband for the first time and stammered so badly she could barely get a word out—she was way too nervous. Finally, she whispered to Lao Ke, "Is—is this Zongcheng?"
"..."
Lao Ke was a total tech geek. He always bought the newest smart-brain devices the moment they came out. In his eyes, Bai Zongyin was practically a legend—someone to admire from afar, respect deeply, and eagerly await every new release from.
And now it turned out that this legend was actually their studio boss’s husband?
The same boss who was always saying how kind and gentle his husband was, and that he’d been smiling a lot more lately?
But as far as Lao Ke knew, that legend hardly ever smiled in public...
How thick are the boss's rose-colored glasses?! Lao Ke silently complained. But then during lunch, he had to take back every doubt.
Turns out, the legend really does smile plenty. It just depends on who he's with.
Everyone else just isn't worthy.
When it was time to say goodbye after the housewarming, Zhuzhu and Lao Ke told him they'd keep their mouths shut.
Qi Cheng: ?
Only after the guests had left did it suddenly hit him—they'd been keeping his husband's identity as Bai Zongyin a secret for him?
"Why though?" Qi Cheng was curious. "Why would they think that? I don't really care either."
He'd even secretly wanted to show off a little.
Bai Zongyin wrapped his arms around Qi Cheng and pulled him close. "Maybe because last time there was a court hearing, some reporters caught you on camera, and I had the trending topics taken down."
So outwardly, it looked like he didn't want Qi Cheng exposed to public attention.
"I don't mind." Bai Zongyin knew what the young man wanted to say. He kissed the top of his head and added, "Chengcheng can show off however he wants."
Qi Cheng's face turned bright red. "Nonsense. I don't do that." He was putting up a tough front.
He only showed off in low-key ways.
Two years later.
Spring. The locust tree from their old place had been dug up and replanted in the backyard. Qi Cheng and his husband stood under it for their annual locust flower harvest—to make locust flower rice.
Fanfan was already three and a half. His favorite black tricycle from before was now too small. Last year, Jiang Zhi sent a new one—even flashier this time, black and gold. Fanfan loved it and rode circles around the tree.
His chubby little legs pedaled hard, the tricycle zipping along.
Silly Goose lay lazily to the side, not bothering to look up. Every now and then, Fanfan would call out "brother," and Silly Goose would open its eyes, respond, and tell Fanfan to be careful not to fall.
Fanfan said "okay," but kept going fast, showing off a sharp turn on his little trike for his dads.
"Dad look! Big Dad look!"
But Qi Cheng had eyes only for his locust flowers, pointing in one direction and saying to his husband, "Husband, those ones over there look full—bunches and bunches of them."
The tree had grown lush and full. When they first transplanted it, last year's blooms weren't nearly as pretty as this year's.
Fanfan got no response. He pedaled his little tricycle right up to his dads, puffed out his chubby cheeks in a huff, and said, "Dad, Big Dad—you two don't love Fanfan. Fanfan is really mad."
Qi Cheng: ...
Where did he learn to act spoiled like that?!
"We love you, we love you. Don't block Dad's view. Go play with your brother."
Silly Goose opened its eyes, thought about objecting, then decided not to bother.
Feeling brushed off, Fanfan huffed, "I'm going to go find Grandpa." And with that, he rode his little tricycle off toward the front yard.
By evening—his husband had just gotten back from abroad yesterday, so the couple hadn't done much. Qi Cheng felt bad because his husband had been so busy during the trip to get home early.
So after a good dinner and the whole family's evening routine, finally came their private night time.
Qi Cheng showered early and changed into his "sleepwear," ready for whatever came next with his husband.
Then the little goose started knocking on the door.
"Dad Dad Dad are you in there?"
Even though his voice was soft and cute, that rapid-fire "dad" was a total mood killer. Cold-hearted daddy Qi Chengcheng said, "Not here." Then added, "What is it?"
Just in case the little one actually needed something.
"I wanna sleep with Dad and Big Dad! I even brought my little pillow!" Fanfan called out in his baby voice.
Qi Cheng: ...Dad doesn't wanna sleep with you. At least not tonight.
Bai Zongyin laughed out loud. Qi Cheng shot him a look. So Bai Zongyin said, "I'll go put him to bed. Chengcheng be good."
"Don't want Big Dad alone—good baby Fanfan wants Dad too~"
The little rascal is still acting cute.
Qi Cheng almost cried. He had no choice but to change out of his "favorite sleepwear" into something more proper—a serious dad's pajamas—and went with his husband to scoop up Fanfan and get him settled in the kids' bedroom.
Now that Fanfan was bigger, Auntie Zheng no longer slept with him. Usually he slept with his brother Silly Goose, and with Silly Goose watching over him, everyone felt at ease.
But every now and then, Fanfan would come knock on his dads' door. The three of them would lie in bed, Fanfan in the middle, with his round little face and big bright eyes full of happy smiles.
Qi Cheng squinted. He felt like he'd been played by the little goose.
But he hadn't run away with the ball, so Fanfan's IQ probably wasn't that high.
"Tomorrow we're sending you to kindergarten."
Fanfan tugged at his dad's sleeve, whining, "No no no, don't wanna go~"
"You have to." Bai Zongyin said.
"Isn't Fanfan cute?" Fanfan batted his eyes.
Qi Cheng burst out laughing and pinched his round, chubby cheeks. "You think school is about being cute? That if you're adorable you graduate? Hahaha. Okay, Dad will tell you a story. Listen and go to sleep early."
Your dads have other activities to get to.
Fanfan kicked his little legs, but his big dad gently smoothed them down, and he settled in, listening wide-eyed to his dads' story.
...
Finally, the story was done and the little goose was asleep. Qi Cheng climbed down from his bed and stretched.
Little boys can be a handful sometimes, but most of the time they're just adorable—whether they're acting spoiled or causing mischief in their own quirky ways.
Qi Cheng bent down and kissed Fanfan's head. "Good night, my precious little goose."
Then his eyes lit up. "Husband, hurry hurry, let's go back and continue—it's only nine!"
Bai Zongyin smiled fondly, wrapped his arm around his little husband, and said okay.
After the couple left, Silly Goose, lying nearby, opened his eyes and muttered slowly, "Good thing I've got electronic eyes—can't get blinded by all this PDA..."
---
Three months later.
The weather was getting hot. Qi Cheng had been sleeping a lot lately and craving sour foods. One day, Auntie Zheng said, "Xiao Cheng, are you...?"
"?" Qi Cheng looked confused.
And then it finally dawned on the slow-to-catch-on Qi Chengcheng!!!
