Chapter 262
Fang Zichen held his forehead, feeling utterly speechless.
Do these people really think I'm an idiot?
Just wearing red clothes and letting their hair down, they thought they could scare me? Who do they take me for?
They clearly had no idea who Third Young Master Fang was.
Thinking back to his childhood exploits, he felt a surge of pride.
Back then, his second brother had tricked him into going to a haunted house. He was too young to be allowed in, but his second brother must have said something to the staff because they actually let him in.
That haunted house was ranked in the top three scariest places in the world. People with high blood pressure or heart conditions weren't even allowed to walk past it. Many adventurers who claimed they could fight ghosts went in standing up, only to come out on stretchers, wake up in the hospital, and get transferred directly to the psychiatric ward.
The people playing ghosts were professionals. Their makeup was incredibly realistic, accompanied by music and well-designed scenes and props. Even faced with all that, he wasn't scared. He was eight years old then and didn't even know they were people in costumes; he thought they were real ghosts. Later, when he and his second brother were being chased all over the place by those things and got separated, he hid in a room. After being chased relentlessly until he was scared shitless, he felt extremely humiliated. Determined to save face, he guarded the doorway, holding his breath, waiting specifically for the ghosts to come out.
When a ghost came out, he yelled, "a ssi-bal!" and slapped it, shouting, "Who's next?"
[아 씨발 (a ssi-bal): a Korean swear word, commonly used in Korean drama to express frustration, anger, or annoyance—similar to "damn it" or "ah, shit" in English.]
When a second ghost came, he yelled "a ssi-bal!" again and slapped it too.
By then, he had been practicing Muay Thai for over half a year and had considerable strength in his hands.
That ghost was slapped dizzy by him.
It was the same with every ghost that came.
He trapped most of the ghosts from that haunted house in the room, preventing them from leaving. They pleaded, "Little kid, we're not ghosts! Please open the door and let us out, okay? We have to work!"
Fang Zichen, hands on his hips, retorted, "Don't try to fool me just because I'm young. I'm not falling for it!"
Not content with just waiting, he went on the offensive, dragging ghosts from most of the haunted house back to the room and locking them up. The staff watched from the monitors and realized that if this continued, all their 'ghosts' would be captured. They had to intervene. A staff member came in and said, "Little kid, stop hitting, stop hitting."
But Fang Zichen was already in a fighting frenzy. Before the staff member could even finish speaking, he yelled "a ssi-bal!" and delivered another slap.
Later, Fang Zichen's parents had to send lawyers to negotiate and paid a considerable sum in compensation to settle the matter. After that, his second brother was forbidden from letting him watch Korean dramas anymore. For the rest of the summer vacation, his grandfather made him watch two months of legal lectures.
Compared to that experience, these few small-time crooks in front of him now, trying to scare him, were utterly clueless.
Fang Zichen chased after the two people and started beating them.
Seeing that Fang Zichen was not easy to deal with, they shouted, "We've run into a tough one! Brothers, call for backup and get weapons!"
Fang Zichen pursued them relentlessly from behind, shouting, "It wouldn't matter even if you called your ancestors!"
Another person jumped out from the woods. Fang Zichen dealt with them one by one, beating them until they howled in pain.
Seeing they were no match for him, the group decided that of the thirty-six strategies, fleeing was the best option.
But Fang Zichen wasn't about to let them escape so easily. He grabbed two of them with his hands and stepped on another with his foot.
Trying to scare me and thinking they can just run off? There's no such thing as a free lunch in this world.
Zhao Ger was still beating up the 'female ghost.' Earlier, aside from the two words she said when she first tried to scare them, this woman refused to make a sound afterwards. Now, beaten and in pain, she couldn't hold out any longer and started begging for mercy.
"Young master, please stop hitting, stop hitting."
Zhao Ger was stunned.
Oh, so it's not a ghost?
How disappointing.
There were hemp ropes in the funeral hall, used for tying coffins. Fang Zichen asked Zhao Ger to open the door and get them.
After tying up the people, Zhao Ger pursed his lips and poked Fang Zichen in the waist, directing his attention to Guaizai.
Guaizai stood on the bamboo mat with his little feet, as small as eggs, bare. He was completely motionless, as if scared silly. When he saw them looking at him, he quickly wiped his tears.
He forced a smile, sniffled, and said, "Father, Daddy~"
Fang Zichen used to think this kid was adorable when he smiled, with his big, crescent-shaped eyes. But now, forcing a smile with a runny nose, it looked uglier than crying. Fang Zichen found it both amusing and pitiful.
He walked over, bent down, and rested his hands on his knees. "Son, were you scared?"
Guaizai forced a smile and stammered, "Hehe, Guaizai, hehe... Guaizai isn't scared."
Fang Zichen laughed. The bamboo mat Zhao Ger bought was well-woven, tight and sturdy. The puddle under Guaizai's feet hadn't even soaked through yet, glistening faintly in the moonlight.
Fang Zichen pointed. "Then what's that?"
Guaizai looked down, and his little face turned completely red.
Fang Zichen asked, "If you're not scared, then how come you peed your pants?"
Guaizai pulled open the front of his pants and peeked inside. His little wee-wee, as small as a silkworm, was drooping between his legs, seemingly fast asleep. He looked up at Fang Zichen and said very seriously, "It's the wee-wee leaking~ Why did it suddenly do that?"
Fang Zichen: "..."
He had clearly just peed his pants from fear.
This damned kid, so young and already so concerned about saving face.
Zhao Ger behind him covered his mouth, trying not to laugh. Worried that the child might catch a cold in the windy night, Zhao Ger helped him take off his wet pants and wrapped him in a thin quilt.
Guaizai was still trying to explain. "Daddy, Guaizai really didn't pee his pants, it was the wee-wee being disobedient. As soon as Guaizai saw those ghosts, Guaizai knew right away that they were people. Guaizai has sharp eyes."
Zhao Ger patted his head, the amusement clear in his eyes. "Is that so?"
"Yes, yes," Guaizai said loudly.
Zhao Ger chuckled outright.
"Daddy, don't laugh~"
